Producer Ryosuke Toriyama revealed at a special Konami event in Japan today that they’re doing some testing work on Konami’s Fox Engine, which will allow them to scan physical models into rendering programs. To demonstrate the new engine, they scanned a new model they put together of a mecha for a property they’ve wanted to revisit for a good, long time: Zone of the Enders.

The project they’re testing the engine for, tentatively named Enders Project, seeks to place assets scanned in this way within the framework of a standard game, and as such this isn’t guaranteed to produce a full game that will see retail shelves. Toriyama and his crew are all excited to be doing something with the Enders series again, though, and could well be using this as an opportunity to get Konami’s attention and greenlight a proper sequel.

Konami has yet to make an official statement on where they do, or don’t, see Enders Project going.
