The Belmont clan can’t ever seem to catch a break, and they pulled double duty at this year’s E3. We gave you a look at Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 earlier this week, and now on the portable side of things we’ve got some details on the 3DS addition to the franchise, the mouthful title Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate.
Mirror of Fate looks to really emphasize the generational aspect of the Belmont family’s quest, featuring the ability to pass learned abilities down the line of playable characters as the game goes on. The gameplay we saw in the trailer and the live gameplay demo at Nintendo’s 3DS presentation last night showed the increasingly common 2.5D design in action, and while the visuals maintain the trademark dreary atmosphere seeing the the camerawork treat the game just like one of the series’ full 3D titles made the 2D environments feel that much more flat than immersive.
The teaser at the end of the trailer featuring Alucard caught our attention, though. We’re given no indication of his bearing on the story, but given his presence in both the Mirror of Fate and Lords of Shadow 2 trailers it seems like Konami and Mercury Steam have big plans for the white-haired prettyboy in the series’ near future.
