Those of you waiting out the next iteration of the Nintendo 3DS before committing on a purchase should probably make your calls now, because according to Shigeru Miyamoto there likely won’t be another one. In an interview with IGN, Miyamoto dispelled the rumors of a plus-sized 3DS in the same vein as the DSi XL, instead claiming that Nintendo is looking into a successor to its current handheld.

Refreshing as this news must be for early adopters, it still feels like a bit of an opportunity lost as far as hammering out some design shortcomings. A built-in second circle pad without the need for a peripheral would definitely be nice, and some manner of ergonomic redesign might help in the way of supporting games encouraging supporting the system with a single hand.
