In the six years since its E3 2006 trailer debut, the lack of significant news or updates on Final Fantasy Versus XIII has turned it into the industry’s new Duke Nukem Forever. In fact, stories of Square Enix’s tumultuous development of the game ultimately leading nowhere reached their height over the last couple days, with rumors of the developer attempting to quietly bury the project and leave it forgotten spreading.
Not true, says Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada. According to a Twitter post he made last night, Versus XIII is still in production and he’d just returned from a meeting featuring a new presentation of one of the game’s urban locations. Seems like a fairly transparent knee-jerk reaction to us, and much as we’d like to believe something will still come out of this project Square Enix is going to have to give us something a bit more substantial before we consider Versus XIII to be out of vaporware territory.
